I mentioned yesterday that I may not make rent. I wasn't kidding.I am $100 over budget for the month of January. I'm lucky I have a savings to dip into, but I’m supposed to be adding to my savings, not the other way around! All the financial guru books say not to do it, but I am calling Sallie Mae and asking her to let me not pay my student loans for a while. I be po’.
I would have been totally fine except that I didn’t really follow the budget I had laid out for myself until two weeks into January. And it’s not even like I’m buying stuff; it’s more like I’m going to the movies (SO expensive!) and eating out (cheap diner food) with PDF. I really want to go do more social things, like drinks with cousin JM or brunch with cousin-of-a-cousin Mollie, but the money that I have is just not enough.
Who am I kidding? I’m netting $2200 a month! My rent alone is 40% of that! Unbelievable. I have to start waiting tables or something. This $18 an hour crap just isn’t gonna cut it. I would have to work seven days a week to really pay all my bills and do all the fun things I want to do. And eat. Eating is good. Yesterday I ate a banana until I got home at 7 pm. I was sad. My tummy was sad. I got a headache from low blood sugar.
I asked for it, I guess. I made this decision knowing that I would be poor and barely able to get by. I knew this was coming at one point or another. And people have asked me “what will you do if…” and at the time I glibly said, “well I’ll just wait tables or something.” So it’s time to get un-lazy. I’ve been resting on my laurels, sort of, getting adjusted, watching the entire three seasons of Lost (if Charlie is really dead I’m not going to watch anymore). So. Time to get un-lazy. Time to figure out how to solve the never ending problem in this, our capitalist society.
No matter how much you have, it’s never enough.
